“Creating a beautiful town with my own small hands.”

Introduction: Protecting the Sacred Entrance

Ogigahama Beach is not just a beautiful coastline; it is the historical starting point of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage. For centuries, pilgrims performed Shiogori here, cleansing themselves in the sea before entering the sacred mountains.

Today, we honor this tradition in a new way. Instead of just washing ourselves, we wash the beach.

The Shiogori Beach Clean is a community initiative where locals and travelers come together to protect this sacred landscape. We believe that picking up one piece of trash is a step toward purifying one’s own heart.

Our Philosophy: “Small Hands” Make a Big Difference

Our motto is “Creating a beautiful town with my own small hands.”

You don’t need to be a superhero to change the world. The act of bending down and picking up litter with your own hands is a humble, powerful gesture of respect—respect for nature, for the history of Kumano, and for the future.

Whether you are a local resident or a traveler passing through, your “small hands” have the power to keep this holy site beautiful.
