SHIOGORI DERIVERLY Luggage Transfer Service
Hassle-Free Pilgrimage from Tanabe to Hongu & Katsuura
You don’t need to carry your heavy luggage while hiking the Kumano Kodo! Use our luggage transfer service to send your bags directly to your next accommodation.
Important Note
The SHIOGORI DERIVERLY service (operated by KuchiKuma Transport and ANDLOCAL, and usually booked via Kumano Travel) is designed for accommodation-to-accommodation transfers along the main Kumano Kodo hiking route (Nakahechi).
It provides a crucial link between the starting point (near Tanabe) and the spiritual core (Hongu), and in some cases, the coastal area (Katsuura).
Plan 1: Tanabe $\rightarrow$ Kumano Hongu Taisha Area (The Nakahechi Route)
This is the most common use case for the service, allowing you to walk the Nakahechi trail (e.g., from Takijiri to Hongu) with only a small day pack.
| Transfer Route | JR Kii-Tanabe Station or Tanabe Accommodation → Hongu Area Accommodation (Kawayu / Yunomine / Wataze Onsen) |
| Drop-off Point | JR Kii-Tanabe Station (near the Tourism Bureau) or Your Accommodation in Tanabe City (Check with the service provider for specific pick-up times/locations.) |
| Pick-up Point | The Front Desk of your reserved Hotel/Ryokan in the Hongu area. |
| Recommended Use | When you plan to hike the Kumano Kodo (Nakahechi) for multiple days, starting from Takijiri Oji. |
How to Use from Tanabe Station
-
Book in Advance: Booking must be made through the service provider (usually via Kumano Travel) well in advance (recommended: at least 7 days before transfer).
-
Drop-off: On your departure day, drop off your luggage at the designated time and location (e.g., 7:45 AM or 12:15 PM at the area near the Tourism Center beside JR Kii-Tanabe Station).
-
Hike: Take the local bus to Takijiri Oji (the hiking start point) and begin your journey hands-free.
-
Pick-up: Your luggage will be waiting for you at your pre-booked accommodation in the Hongu area (Kawayu, Yunomine, etc.) by the evening.
Plan 2: Hongu Area $\rightarrow$ Kii-Katsuura (The Grand Route)
Once you complete the main Nakahechi route at Hongu, you can use the service to transfer your luggage directly to the Pacific coast for the next part of your journey, the Nachi area.
| Transfer Route | Hongu Area Accommodation → Kii-Katsuura Accommodation |
| Drop-off Point | Your Hongu Area Accommodation (e.g., Kawayu Onsen, Yunomine Onsen). Leave your luggage at the front desk before 9:00 AM. |
| Pick-up Point | The Front Desk of your reserved Hotel/Ryokan in the Kii-Katsuura area. |
| Example Cost | Hongu $\rightarrow$ Nachi Katsuura: Approx. ¥2,800 per piece (Rates vary by provider and size.) |
Benefits for the Hongu $\rightarrow$ Katsuura Trip
-
Free up your day: You can take the public bus or train to Kii-Katsuura without managing large bags.
-
Easy Access to Nachi: You can travel light, making it easier to take the bus from Katsuura Station up to Kumano Nachi Taisha and the famous Nachi Waterfall.
